Scott's surgery and Grandmother and Grandaddy's visit last weekend

Scott had a scheduled surgery for the 17th for his leg.

For those reading this that don't know...the quick story is...

Scott has had swelling in his left leg since the beginning of this year.

After a long journey starting with a primary care physician, who prescribed IB profen, 

to a few visits to an orthopedic clinic, wearing a boot for about 2 months, 

X-rays, ultrasounds, various (painful) testings with a vascular specialist in Jackson, Scott found himself looking at surgery to place stents in his leg for narrowing of his vessel(s).

Dr. Raju, the vascular specialist in Jackson, was not sure of the extent of the narrowing, but could definetly identify one area that would need (a) stent(s) and said he felt confident if there were other narrowing areas, he would be able to identify those at the time of surgery.  So.....the surgery was scheduled and we needed help since the surgery was in Jackson and obviously we could not take 3 boys to Jackson.  

So Grandmother and Grandaddy gladly volunteered to come to Columbus and help

wherever and however they could! They were also super excited to meet Levi:)

The boys loved the car and tractor Grandaddy brought from Estonia.

The boys loved having books read to them.

I'm not sure if Levi enjoyed being held by Grandmother more or 

if she enjoyed holding him more.....:)

Special time with Grandmother and Grandaddy

Since Levi has not had his shots and I am nursing, Scott and I felt it would

be best if I stayed home.  Grandaddy took Daddy (Scott) to Jackson and stayed 

with him in the hospital, while Grandmother stayed home with the boys and me.

The boys and Grandmother had a blast!

The boys loved having Grandmother around, as she read, played outside, played cars 

and games with the boys. I also enjoyed Grandmother being here as she was a HUGE help! 

I have to say, Levi and I also enjoyed our lunch date and conversations too.

Scott and Grandaddy did not have as much of a great time (at least at first), 

as they left bright and early on Monday to make it to the hospital to check in by 8, 

only to sit around all day; the surgery ended up not happening until after 3 that afternoon.  

Daddy had to stay overnight at the hospital, so we sent him a balloon and happy at the hospital 

and when he came home, we had get well cards for him:)

As for Scott's surgery....

It went well, I guess (and hope).

He ended up having a total of 5 stents placed and they ranged from 1-2 inches long each.

He ended up having 2 places where the vessels narrowed; the doctor compared it

to the narrowing of the neck of a wine bottle. 

One area was likely caused from trauma (probably happened when Scott fell last year 

and crushed his vertebrae) and the other possibly from a clot that resolved itself.

He was in a lot of pain after the surgery....and I'd venture to say still some 

(but if so he doesn't really complain about it).

He has followed all the doc's orders for various "recovery therapy"

such as a leg massager (which is not a massager at all....it's a boot he zips on over his leg

that seems like it squeezes his leg ALOT), walking and treading water in a pool each day, 

and taking medications.

He has a follow up appointment in a few weeks.....

The boys were so glad to see, and in Levi's case meet Grandaddy and Grandmother!!
